Rise of the Technology Class

These conversations are between students from Ecuador, India, Israel, Japan, Mexico, Spain and the US who see technology serving a higher purpose: A counter-culture to their predecessors. This is evidence of a new type of generative class who apply technology to their creativity with art, music, science and involvement within the community. Their activity is transparent and active to our evolving civility. These multinational students are socially conscious storytellers. The Moderator of this conversation, Michael Davis is an Executive MBA graduate of Steinbeis University Germany, The Berlin School of Creative Leadership.

Nicole – Graffiti in Quito, Ecuador

IMG_0364.JPGGraffiti is considered as an art in some places around the world. however, here in Quito it is not, at least not so much as an art, but in a way of people of expressing themselves.

I’ve seen in my city, few walls that are amazing works of art. one of these walls were given to young people to do what they wanted to do.  the finale product was great and you can see almost their personalities through their way of painting. nevertheless there are thousands of walls in Quito that, personally I don’t consider an art, but a way of people of expressing about society. most of these walls are messages talking about politics. young people expressing what they think, what they hate. sometimes these messages can be rude, senseless, funny, etc.

I agree with the fact that people wants to express how they feel about their societies, but I really don’t like the tools some of them are using. all this unity, all this energy should be focused in an other way because it seems that they forget that its our city we are talking about, not a blank page.

Young people’s opinion is important, but our city image to tourists and the rest of the world is important too.

Quito is a beautiful city with intelligent people who want to express themselves and make a change around them. however they need to do it in the right way, with the right tools.

Kaito – Do you forget we are connected?

Untitled-1

Culture. It is a very good word.

Around the world. How many websites you can tell about the culture? Too many. I find a popular site, to share with my friends. It is – J! – ENT for pop culture, fashion, music, talks and entertainment.

It is for all countries. People’s lives and the way we are talking. I have to travel to countries in Europe, America and India.

Today this information = statement of thanks to the computer and I think our precious mobile phone.

I know about the world with a connection to the Internet. If no internet I would not know this place.

Nikolas – Glenview, a suburb of Chicago

It is true, living in Glenview, a very nice US suburban town, I have been exposed to some of the latest and greatest technology offered to modern communities.

This means that I have a very different viewpoint than people in other countries who don’t have access.

I may take things I see here for granted and see them as just normal tools or ways to communicate in my community…when really in other towns and countries they could be considered a luxury or super high tech.

Living in an area where material items are abundant, probably makes me much more skeptical than students in remote cities in other countries.

Kaito – breaking sterotypes…being the artist

Hammer

Some of my friends in the US do not know how much the center of culture can start in Tokyo. Imagine please New York, Paris, London, Berlin and San Paulo all of them in to one city. That is Tokyo. Japan is an island. It is difficult for Western people to make the trip. Culture in form of art and music begin here and develops. Invents itself. Yes, we are also the influence of the eastern and western world culture. The force of artistic culture is so powerful here that it is feeling more than the technology advances of our culture. Please see the following link for a new movement to share artistic talent through expression and content. Thank you very much.

Salvador – A World Change

tecnologia_verde

That´s like a Nikolas_The Flip-Side post comment. Of course. We (young people arround the world) should change the world. We have to eliminate the injustices that there are arround the world, eradicating poverty, ensuring that all we are equal, that people won´t be more rich than other person, no more powerful than other people, no difference between countries, that everyone study on the school. But we must change many things, how we live, think, change the policy, the economy (although that is giving us many problems in all countries of the world, and we continue supporting the economy, I don´t know why) We have to change everything, that not have wars and discrimination, racism or hunger in the world. If we do nothing, we´ll destroy the world. Technology, communication, Internet, media are essential to say to the people “We have to change the world”. It is also necessary to take care of the planet and animals, plants, everything in it, so we need to find a form of development that does not damage the environment, take care, there is a radical change, reinventing everything all the technology and research and create all that we have now but that doesn´t pollute.

Nikolas – The Flip-Side

My last two posts have been about the cons of technology and how it is a burden on our society. But then I thought about how it has benefited me in the past. I am a member of a club at my school that fights for peace in Darfur, Sudan, and some of our jobs consist of sponsoring schools, and pressuring the government to take action. Through our resources on-line and through email, we have been able to be a voice for them and pass on there experiences and fulfill there needs. The fact that technology has come this far in communication and has made it possible and easier to have even high school kids make a difference blows my mind and makes me motivated to do more to help and play a roll in the world.
