Rise of the Technology Class

These conversations are between students from Ecuador, India, Israel, Japan, Mexico, Spain and the US who see technology serving a higher purpose: A counter-culture to their predecessors. This is evidence of a new type of generative class who apply technology to their creativity with art, music, science and involvement within the community. Their activity is transparent and active to our evolving civility. These multinational students are socially conscious storytellers. The Moderator of this conversation, Michael Davis is an Executive MBA graduate of Steinbeis University Germany, The Berlin School of Creative Leadership.

Samantha – Large Hadron Collider from the movie “Angels and Demons”

angels

A few days ago I went to the movie Angels and Demons and that movie shows a little bit of the function of the “large hadron collider”.

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the world’s largest and highest-energy particle accelerator, intended to collide opposing particle beams.

The Large Hadron Collider was built by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) with the intention of testing various predictions of high-energy physics, including the existence of the hypothesized ‘Higgs boson.’ It lies in a tunnel 27 kilometres (17 mi) in circumference, as much as 175 metres (570 ft) beneath the Franco-Swiss border near Geneva, Switzerland.

l

It is funded by and built in collaboration with over 10,000 scientists and engineers from over 100 countries as well as hundreds of universities and laboratories.

Experimentally verifying the existence of the Higgs boson, the last unobserved particle, would shed light on how particles are thought to acquire their mass.

Expected results:
Once the supercollider is up and running, scientists estimate that a single Higgs boson may be produced every few hours.

At this rate, it may take up to three years to collect enough data to discover the Higgs boson unambiguously.

Cristo – Good news for the summer

Finally – an ice cream that will not melt under normal temperature is on sale from a Japanese company called “Food Research Institute of Seaweed.”

This kind of mysterious ice cream has been discovered by chance by the company in the investigation of soy products. The wonderful thing is that the ice which makes it ‘different’ is a very common ingredient of soy-waste, which the company used as an ingredient in the preparation of bread.

The staff discovered by chance that the ice cream blended with milk soybean residue is more difficult to dissolve compared to regular ice cream. According to the company, it solves the inconvenience as ice cream melts and avoids the waste of large amounts of soy, so that resources can be fully used.

Nokia launches its most advanced mobile, the N97 – and Apple launches the new iPhone 3GS in 75 countries, the third generation iPhone. The N97, is the “crown jewel” of Nokia, the world’s largest manufacturer of mobile devices.

In this world, a very big duel.

But there are many good phones now on the market, very similar to these two mobiles. LG, Blackberry and Samsung have very good touch-screen phones, like the new LG Sand (“LG Arena” in Spanish)

Sergio – xbox 360 e3

I want to know your opinion about the new microsoft project, relative to the e3 xbox 360.

Check this out for video game play. Amazing!

Samantha – Videogames vs. Music

A few days ago i read an article about the industry of videogames and music. Its true that the people actually is looking for a new type of fun to spend on his free times. But what really caught my attention was the fact of the rising of the sales of video-games and the decrease of the record sales. This is happening because, according to the article, people looks for a story, for imagination to live with, could be able to participate on that stories, above a record with a few good songs. I don’t know if that happens to me but im sure that at least one of us has been dreaming with a new game of Xbox 360 or PS3 instead of the new album of Rhianna. Take your choice…

Kaito – ABC’s of Social Media Video. Funny.

Michael – Innovation vs. Invention

VHS Tapes?

This is hand-drawn

All of it. It’s not a photo and was recently created by an artist. I’m still trying to find the artist. So, someone will be drawing CD covers in 10 years since we download all our music. I am sure innovation trumps invention. With every new device people think the world will change overnight. The iPhone could be an exception. Things did change overnight. Otherwise, very few inventions changed the world as quickly. There was another tape format that looked just like these VHS tapes called “Betacam.” It didn’t last for home use, but was a breakthrough format for documentary makers and television stations. Most of us are innovators. Occasionally we think of something simple that hasn’t been made before. As this blog populates with more of you, discuss your innovation here. One of you will invent something new someday. The innovation that you collaborate with others will probably lead you there. Bill Gates. Steve Jobs. Sergei Brin. Inventors or Innovators? Or just great leaders?
