This is evidence of a new type of generative class who apply technology to their creativity with art, music, science and involvement within the community. Samantha – Large Hadron Collider from the movie “Angels and Demons”

A few days ago I went to the movie Angels and Demons and that movie shows a little bit of the function of the “large hadron collider”.

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the world’s largest and highest-energy particle accelerator, intended to collide opposing particle beams.

The Large Hadron Collider was built by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) with the intention of testing various predictions of high-energy physics, including the existence of the hypothesized ‘Higgs boson.’ It lies in a tunnel 27 kilometres (17 mi) in circumference, as much as 175 metres (570 ft) beneath the Franco-Swiss border near Geneva, Switzerland.

It is funded by and built in collaboration with over 10,000 scientists and engineers from over 100 countries as well as hundreds of universities and laboratories.

Experimentally verifying the existence of the Higgs boson, the last unobserved particle, would shed light on how particles are thought to acquire their mass.

Expected results:
Once the supercollider is up and running, scientists estimate that a single Higgs boson may be produced every few hours.

At this rate, it may take up to three years to collect enough data to discover the Higgs boson unambiguously.

Veena – business, technology, disease

It seems like most of the time business plays a major role in technology–almost a greater role than technology itself does. Even if we have the technology to create something, if the business community is again it, it will not be created. An example of this is several years ago when electric cars were first introduced in the U.S. Gas companies did not want people to buy the electric cars because it would be bad for their business, so they lobbied and spent money to keep the electric cars from becoming a big thing. Electric cars went out of production here for a very long time because the businesses were against them.

Another way that business controls technology is in the area of medicine. It is very possible that if it was not for insurance companies and hospitals trying to make money, we could find cures for some of the diseases that are most prevalent right now. However, doctors know that the real money is not in research, but in practice of medicine, and hospitals and insurance companies want people to buy vaccine after vaccine each year for things like the flu or meningitis, instead of finding one cure. I’m pretty sure that a cure hasn’t been discovered for anything since polio. polio vial

Surely we have the technology to cure other diseases, but if the business world is against it, technology doesn’t really have a chance.

My dad was always a car fan, actually my whole family has always had an obsession with cars. Since I became part of YTC, I think i have become more of a car lover. I loved becoming part of a group that had a function to it. Unlike other groups in school, the Cyber Service actually provided a service to the community besides helping itself. I mean you look at other clubs after school, and they were moslty social groups, besides the math clubs and all that. This group actually has a mission, not only to be part of a whole community around the world to enhance our possibilities with technology, but help the community, those left behind, to come with us as well. By helping the kids in town like Cicero, where there is a ton of diversity, we see that the ones that have the easiest reach to technology are not the only ones to enhance it.
The whole idea of an organization like this taught me that there’s more to our selfish ideals of advancement. Technology is sufficient only when the people know how to use it, when it becomes available, and it easily sensed by the public who is willing to invest in it. I mean, a big example is cars. Now with the whole recession thing in the US, and the whole environmental concern, people need to find technologies that support both their pockets and their thirst to conserve the environment. Overall, I have learned to appreciate the technology changes. Before it was not a question of, “Ohh, that’s too expensive, who’s gonna buy that?” My mentallity now is, “Wow, that’s good, I wonder just how much time it needs to become affordable, and is able to reach the community.”

product-149119Think it was yesterday, but this hybrid has been running for 12 years on the market, Toyota has decided to renew it after selling 1,280,000 units of this model throughout the world.

Toyota has taken into account the requirements of the European market and has redefined the Prius to get more power and more driving fun, facilitating the rapid motorway exit of the old continent.

Changes in the motor are reflected in an increase in power of both engines, the power going fromotor priusm 68 to 82 hp, while that of gasoline rises from 78 to 98 hp with an increase in displacement from 1.3 liters of the previous model the 1.5-liter Prius III.

The era of analog broadcast television in the United States will end as the nation’s full power* television stations complete their transition to an all-digital system. While this change will mark the end of the traditional analog method of broadcasting over-the-air television, it won’t signal the end of free broadcast television, and your favorite broadcast programs and local television stations will still be available.

Don’t forget your old school analog TV’s will cease receiving over-the-air TV signals come tomorrow unless you score a digital converter box or you receive your television by cable, satellite or built-in HDTV tuner. Congress extended the DTV Transition date from Feburary 17th, 2009 (best day ever might I add) to June 12, 2009 due to the economy and lack of DTV coupons.

It’s your geeky duty to call grandma and inform her that her precious block of Baking With Julia and The Best Of The Joy Of Painting will no longer be filling her noontime cat nap unless she steps up to all digital TV.

Its interesting how people in Ecuador are always looking for the latest gadgets. For example,  i’ve heard from one of my teachers that people in Ecuador change their cellphones within a period of three months. is this normal in other places around the world?
