Cristo – Buried in co2 is possible?

Recently, the experts talk of alternatives to meet energy demand worldwide. Some of the names that are mentioned: nuclear, solar, wind, renewable.

And now, the new alternative is to capture and store carbon dioxide.

This technology requires trapping emissions of carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels in power plants and inject it into underground layers of the Earth. It is believed that CO2 emissions from China and India will double by 2030.

According to David King,  if we continue emitting carbon dioxide at current levels we are facing an enormous risk to the planet. Professor King has been an open supporter of nuclear power as a solution to reduce carbon emissions. But now says it is essential that the power plants around the world adopt the technology for storage of CO2. Particularly, he says, in large developing countries such as China, India or Brazil, which inevitably emit huge quantities of CO2 when consumed its huge coal reserves.

“This will be catastrophic, unless we can persuade these countries to catch CO2 emissions at its power plants and stored underground in porous rocks,” said King.

The British government announced it will study the technology being developed by a consortium of energy firms, including British Petroleum, BP.

According to BP, this technology can save the same amount of CO2 that they produce 250,000 cars a year.

I as born in Pamplona/Iruña (Navarra/Nafarroa) the 29th of june 1993.
Now, I live in a small town called Orihuela/Oriola, situated in Alicante, south-east of Spain.

Orihuela is a monumental town, there are lots of gothic churches, palaces and old buildings. Orihuela has much history. Hundreds of years ago, Orihuela was one of the most important cities in Spain. 84.626 people live here now.

I like music, going to the cinema, reading, watching TV, skiing (I go skiing every year, I love skiing), swimming, going snorkeling, riding on bike, playing computer games.

I love the beach (I go to the beach every weekend and on holidays), I love the mountain too.

I rarely buy computer games, I download them on the internet.

Spanish films aren’t very good. I don’t  normally see Spanish films, I prefer hollybood films, but many of those films are very unreal.

I listen to Spanish music, but also a lot of music in English. I like all kind of music, no, sorry, I don´t like house and reggae – but especially like rock, hard rock, SKA, heavy. I like Mago D e Oz, Marea, Boikot…and many others.

On TV, I see Spanish programs, like “Salvados”, “Buenafuente”, “El Intermedio” and “Qué vida más triste”. I normally see American films. I see some TV series like “Aida”, “Aquí no hay Quien Viva” and American series like House, CSI and Criminal Minds.

I really enjoy reading. I like Harry Potter, like Samantha. My Spanish literature and language teacher is Rosa Cáceres, and she´s a writer. I’ve read one of her books and she writes very good. My fauvorite writers are Dan Brown, J.K Rowling, Ken follet, Tolkien and Ildefonso Falcones.

Veena – business, technology, disease

It seems like most of the time business plays a major role in technology–almost a greater role than technology itself does. Even if we have the technology to create something, if the business community is again it, it will not be created. An example of this is several years ago when electric cars were first introduced in the U.S. Gas companies did not want people to buy the electric cars because it would be bad for their business, so they lobbied and spent money to keep the electric cars from becoming a big thing. Electric cars went out of production here for a very long time because the businesses were against them.

Another way that business controls technology is in the area of medicine. It is very possible that if it was not for insurance companies and hospitals trying to make money, we could find cures for some of the diseases that are most prevalent right now. However, doctors know that the real money is not in research, but in practice of medicine, and hospitals and insurance companies want people to buy vaccine after vaccine each year for things like the flu or meningitis, instead of finding one cure. I’m pretty sure that a cure hasn’t been discovered for anything since polio. polio vial

Surely we have the technology to cure other diseases, but if the business world is against it, technology doesn’t really have a chance.
